OnePlus 6 Price in India Cut During Amazon Great Indian Festival Sale

For the unknown, OnePlus 6 is the company’s flagship smartphone of 2018 and was launched earlier in May. OnePlus 6 is the successor to the OnePlus 5T and features improvements in the display size, processor and cameras. OnePlus 6 is available in different RAM and storage models, but the Amazon offer is currently only visible for the model with 64GB storage. The smartphone launched with a starting price of Rs. 34,999 and will be available for Rs. 29,999 during the sale period.

Ahead of the upcoming festive season, Amazon India has announced a Special Festive Price on one of its bestseller – the OnePlus 6. During the Great Indian Festival, the base variant (6GB+64GB) of the OnePlus 6 will be available at Rs 29,999 starting with Prime Early Access at 12 pm on October 9.

Other variants of the OnePlus 6 will also sell at discounted prices. The 8GB RAM, 128 GB storage and the 8GB RAM, 256 GB storage models will be available for Rs 34,999 and Rs 38,999 respectively. The prices will be Rs 5000 less than the launch price of the device.

The OnePlus 6T is in the pipeline and is expected to make a public debut on October 17. The price cut has been announced as part of the Great Indian Festival discount but it could become the permanent pricing of the OnePlus 6 after the launch of 6T. The OnePlus 6T will have a bigger screen with a water drop notch on top. It will also come with an in-display fingerprint sensor which the company is calling Screen Lock. On the other hand, OnePlus will be getting rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack. This will make the OnePlus 6 the last OnePlus device to feature a dedicated headphone jack.

OnePlus 6 64GB gets Rs 5,000 discount during Amazon

OnePlus 6 64GB variant will be available at a Rs 5,000 discount during Amazon’s Great Indian Festival sale starting October 10. The OnePlus 6 64GB variant will be made available at an effective price tag of Rs 29,999, down from Rs 34,999.

It’s not often that the good phones go on sale with a good discount. It’s even rare that great phones, which are already priced very competitively, are part of any sale. This is going to make the OnePlus 6, which is a fantastic phone by any measure, one hell of deal when it goes on sale during Great Indian Festival Sale on Amazon from October. The phone will be on sale for five days, or until stock lasts, starting October 10. The stated discount is Rs 5,000, that will make the starting price of OnePlus 6 Rs 29,999, but with additional offers, some shoppers will be able to get it for as low as Rs 27,000.
With the festive season arriving soon in India, both Flipkart and Amazon have locked horns to host the biggest sales of the year.
While Flipkart has revealed its top deals on Honor smartphones and others, arch-rival Amazon has announced to offer OnePlus 6 at Rs. 29,999 (MRP: Rs. 34,999) during its Great Indian Festival Sale from October 10-15.
That said, while Amazon has listed this new price of Rs. 29,999 for OnePlus 6’s base-variant (6GB RAM/64GB storage), it remains to be seen if the mid-end (8GB/128GB) and top-tier (8GB/256GB) models will also get the same price reduction.
Planning to buy yourself a OnePlus 6? Here’s a good news for you as the company has announced that the OnePlus 6 64GB variant will be available at a Rs 5,000 discount during the Amazon Great Indian Festival starting October 10. It is to be noted that the offer is not valid for the 128GB and 256GB inbuilt storage variants of the OnePlus 6. Currently, Amazon revealed only the price of the base variant as Rs 29,999.
The Great Indian sale will be held from October 10 to October 15. Amazon India will also be having some instant cash back discounts on SBI bank credit and debit cards, exchange discounts and more during the sale period.
OnePlus 6 is currently available on Amazon India in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options, which are priced at Rs 34,999, Rs 39,999, and Rs 43,999 respectively. In the sale period, the 64GB variant will sell out for Rs 29,999 after Rs 5,000 discount. Notably, this is the first time OnePlus has slashed the price of OnePlus 6 since its launch and it has arrived right before the launch of OnePlus 6T on October 16.
OnePlus is ready to launch its latest phone – the OnePlus 6T and rumours suggest that it will be out on 16th October 2018. While many people would be waiting for the device, some of them would have their eye set on OnePlus 6. E-commerce giant Amazon has a good news for them. Amazon offers the smartphone for just Rs 29,999 during the Amazon Great Indian Festival sale.
The sale will be held between October 10 and October 15, and there will be a lot of products getting interesting discounts. The OnePlus 6 price as of now in India starts at Rs 34,999 for the base variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Launch Now Tipped for October 15

The Mi MIX 3 is expected to feature a 6.4-inch Quad HD+ AMOLED display and will ditch the notch seen on Mi 8 and front camera placed on the chin in the previous Mi MIX smartphones. It will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and up to 128GB internal storage. It is expected to feature dual 12-megapixel rear cameras aided by AI, and a 20-megapixel selfie shooter at the front. The selfie camera will be coupled with additional depth sensors for the Face ID implementation. The Mi MIX is also tipped to pack a huge 4,000mAh battery with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0.

Leaks surrounding the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 have been around since July, however the smartphone hasn’t been revealed yet. Now, a fresh leak suggests that the Mi Mix 3 may be launched as soon as October 15. Xiaomi President Lin Bin had earlier confirmed an October launch, and this leak seems to lend weight to that claim. CEO Lei Jun had also said that he will “force” his colleagues to “speed up” the mass production and “fight for large-scale” sales at the end of October. Taking all of this into account, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is now expected to launch on October 15, and go on sale by the end of this month. A Mi Mix 3 poster has been leaked on Weibo, showing the October 15 launch date, and notes the venue to be Nanjing Olympics Sports Centre. Of course, this is just a leak and no official confirmation from Xiaomi has been received. The company was earlier touted to launch the device on September 15, but that didn’t happen either. We recommend you take everything with a pinch of salt, until an official launch date is announced by Xiaomi itself. Another image leak (seen below) on Weibo shows the Mi Mix 3 with a true bezel-less design, something that has been leaked extensively earlier as well.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Launch Now Tipped for October 15

The longtime rumoured Mi Mix 3 finally gets a launch date. But, the date hasn’t been confirmed by Xiaomi yet. Two new teasers leaked on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo reveal that the Mi Mix 3 may go official on October 15. As noted, Xiaomi is yet to confirm the same. To recall, previous reports had suggested that Mi Mix 3 will be launching on September 15, but that didn’t happen. For now, we aren’t sure if the October 15 is actually the launch date of the Mi Mix 3, but what is confirmed for sure is that the phone will be launching this month itself. Xiaomi might launch its Mi Mix 3 smartphone on October 15 suggests a new leaked image of the invite for the same on Weibo. In an earlier post made by Xiaomi President Lin Bin on Weibo, it was confirmed that the company is ramping up on its mass production of the device and will be launching it in October. This invite simply puts a date to the already confirmed month of launch. According to the leaked invite, the launch event will take place on October 15 in the Nanjing Olympics Sports Centre. Recent reports suggest that the Mi Mix 3 will also sport a slide out camera unit similar to the Oppo Find X. However, the device, unlike Oppo’s Find X, will not feature a motorised camera module, instead, the unit will be a manual one. Xiaomi President Lin Bin in August this year confirmed that the Mi Mix 3 is coming in October, but never revealed the launch date. He also posted an image of the phone which revealed that the Mi Mix 3 will get a major revamp in a lot of aspects. The image revealed that the Mi Mix 3 will come with a sliding camera on the front and looks somewhat similar to the Oppo Find X. The slider is expected to equip the selfie camera, earpiece and some sensors. Xiaomi is yet to reveal details on how the camera slider of the Mi Mix 3 will work. Earlier leaks suggest that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will sport a Samsung QHD+ AMOLED display panel with COP packaging technology. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor paired with Adreno 630 GPU. The device will come with a 20MP camera up front for taking selfies.
The new teasers leaked on Weibo don’t reveal any new information about the Mi Mix 3. The teasers just show the Mi Mix 3 with full-screen display and tips that the phone could launch on Oct 15. According to a report by AndroidPure, the Mi Mix 3 will four RAM/internal storage variants – 6GB RAM/64GB internal storage, 6GB RAM/128GB internal storage, 8GB RAM/128GB internal storage and an 8GB RAM/256GB internal storage priced at $510 (approximately Rs 36,300), $555 (approximately Rs 39,500), $600 (approximately Rs 42,700) and $645 (approximately Rs 45,900), respectively.Ahead of the launch, a lot has been already talked about the Mi Mix 3. Going by the rumours it looks like the Mi Mix 3 will be a follow up of the Mi Mix 2S. The smartphone will come with a bezel-less design, two cameras on the rear panel and single on the front just as the 2S. As noted, the selfie camera of the phone will be embedded inside the slider. We expect the front camera of the phone to work just like the Oppo Find X. This means, on opening the camera app the slider will pop-up and capture the selfie, and after the app is closed the slider will go down. As for the camera configuration, the Mi Mix 3 is expected to come with a 16-megapixel primary camera and a 12-megapixel secondary camera on the back. On the front, the Mi Mix 3 is said to sport the same camera setup as the Mi Mix 2S, which is a 5MP.
The Mi MIX series has been a hit since it first arrived in 2016. Xiaomi is set to launch the 4th phone in the series called the Mi MIX 3 anytime soon. Images of the phone were posted on the web by Xiaomi’s own president at IFA Berlin with a promise to launch in October. Now it appears there is an official release date. The Mi Mix 3 is expected to come with a much bigger screen compared to the Mi Mix 2 and the Mix 2S. Rumours say that the phone could sport a 6-inch display with 19:9 aspect ratio. Some rumours also suggest that the Mi Mix 3 will include an in-display fingerprint sensor, while some hints at a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. So, there’s still some confusion whether the Mi Mix 3 will sport a fingerprint sensor under the display or on the rear panel.
An image has surfaced online and it reveals that the Mi MIX 3 will launch on October 15. That is about two weeks from today. Although there is no way to confirm the authenticity of the image, Xiaomi executives did state that October is when the device is scheduled for launch. Nevertheless, we advise you take the above date with a grain of salt until we get confirmation. The Mi MIX 3, as revealed in the images, will have a slider albeit mechanical. This slider design is because of the very thin bezels around the screen much like that of the Vivo NEX. It will come with a Snapdragon 845 processor under the hood and is also reported to have a dedicated AI assistant button and an in-display fingerprint scanner. We expect the Mi Mix 3 to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor. Rumours suggest that the phone will come in two variants. The base model with 6GB RAM and 256GB of storage, while the top-end model of the phone is said to include 8GB RAM paired with 256GB of internal storage. The Mi Mix 3 is also tipped to come with IP68 rating and hence is expected to be water and dust resistant. It is likely to run the latest Android Oreo-based MIUI 10.

Nokia 6.1 Plus to Receive Android Pie Update This Month

As expected, HMD Global is prioritising some of its more popular smartphones for the Android Pie rollout. Firstly, that includes handsets running on the Snapdragon 600 SoC series, starting with the Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus. Both the smartphones should start receiving the update sometime this month. On the other hand, the Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco should get their respective Android 9 updates in November. Notably, the company did not provide any clear dates for the release of the update to the smartphones.

Quite a few device makers have revealed their Android Pie update roll-out timelines. In the case of HMD Global, the company has promised the Android Pie update for all Nokia-branded devices, which is nice to see. HMD Global has consistently distinguished itself with respect to software updates, and all new Nokia-branded phones are part of the Android One platform, which means they are required to receive monthly security updates. At the Nokia 7.1 announcement yesterday, HMD Global revealed that the Nokia 6.1 and the Nokia 6.1 Plus would receive the Android Pie update this month. Notably, the company is launching the Nokia 7.1 with Android 8.1 Oreo, but the phone will receive the Android Pie update this month as well.

Nokia 6.1 & 6.1 Plus get Android Pie this month, Nokia 8

HMD Global added that the Nokia 8 and the Nokia 8 Sirocco would receive the Android 9 Pie update next month. As of now, the Nokia 7 Plus (which received official Android P developer preview updates in the past) remains the only Nokia smartphone to receive the stable Android Pie update. The Nokia 8 Sirocco remains the company’s current flagship as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845-powered Nokia 9 is yet to be unveiled. If the company follows up on its promises by rolling out the updates on time, it will have once again distinguished itself against its competitors, which include the likes of Xiaomi, Honor, Motorola, Asus, Realme, and others. The Nokia 6.1 Plus, for example, would gain a competitive advantage in terms of software after receiving the Android Pie update.

The official Android Pie update saga has yet to get any sort of momentum. Android 9 Pie was released by Google for the Google Pixel/XL and the Google Pixel 2/XL in August. On the same day of release, Essential rolled out the Android Pie update to the Essential Phone. Since then, we have seen the OnePlus 6 receive official Android 9 in the form of OxygenOS 9.0. HMD Global has rolled out Android 9 Pie to the Nokia 7 Plus. Beta updates are ongoing for a few Huawei devices, and Samsung Experience 10 based on Android Pie is in development for the Samsung Galaxy S9/Galaxy S9+. As of now, that’s where the story stands.

Google announced Android 9.0 Pie update for Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL devices in August. Since then, there have been few other smartphones which have received the Pie update- notably the OnePlus 6 with OxygenOS 9.0, Essential Phone and Nokia 7 Plus. Other smartphone makers such as Samsung and Huawei have been testing the Android Pie update for their devices and is expected soon. HMD Global, the home of Nokia smartphones, had earlier announced Pie update for all is Android One devices. The second batch of devices expected to get the update this month are the Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus following which the Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 8 are next in line to receive the update next month.

The Nokia 6.1 comes with a 5.5-inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. It is powered by the Snapdragon 630 SoC coupled with Adreno 508 GPU and includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. With respect to the cameras, there is a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone is backed by a 3000mAh battery and runs on stock Android 8.1 Oreo.

Who is getting a slice of Pie? The Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus are first in line, they’ll get Android 9.0 this month. Next up are the Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco will be updated in November. The Nokia 8 launched in October 2017 with 7.1 Nougat, so in its first year of support the 8 will go through two major Android versions.

HMD Global will ship Android 9 Pie update to Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphones this month. There will be two more devices – Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco – that will get the same update in November. Yesterday at Nokia 7.1 launch event in London, the company made the announcement about the Android 9 Pie update for these four Nokia devices, 9to5Google reports. The Nokia 7.1 features ‘PureDisplay’ technology, which according to HMD ensures higher contrast, and more vibrant colors. It has a 5.84-inch IPS LCD FHD+ notched panel, with a resolution of 1080×2280 pixels, and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The display is HDR10-compliant, and has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Interestingly, the smartphone also has a dedicated 16-bit engine that can convert SDR content to HDR in real-time.

Nokia will start rolling out Android Pie updates this month

The Snapdragon 600-series phones are first up for Pie with the Nokia 6.1 and 6.1 Plus getting the update later this month. The newly announced Nokia 7.1 is also expected to have Pie before the month is out (it launches with Oreo). Nokia’s flagship phones, the Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco are also getting Pie, but not until next month. You can see the announcement of this timeline in the video below around the eight-minute mark.
Nokia’s Android 9 Pie update just landed on the company’s Nokia 7 Plus within the past couple of weeks. Now, alongside the reveal of a new smartphone, Nokia is confirming Pie updates for a few more of its devices.
At its London launch event today, Nokia confirmed that Android 9 Pie was heading out to a few more phones starting this month. Firstly, that includes devices running on the Snapdragon 600-series chipsets. Namely, that’s the Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus. Both of those devices will get Pie during the month of October.
On the other hand, Nokia’s is also updating the Nokia 8 and the Nokia 8 Sirocco to Pie starting in November. There’s no clear timeline, but the update will apparently arrive before the month is out.

Nokia 7.1 vs Nokia 6.1 Plus: What’s the Difference?

HMD Global, Nokia’s licensee today launched its new mid-range smartphone, Nokia 6.1 Plus in India. Priced at Rs 15,999 for the 4GB RAM/64GB storage model; the mid-range offering from Nokia’s shelf will be available for purchase from August 30 via Flipkart and Nokia website. The successor to the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus features a 5.8-inch 19:9 display with a notch on top of the front panel. Notably, the smartphone is the first from the company to offer a notch-style screen. Underneath the glass body sits a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor. The phone runs pure Android Oreo OS and comes with dual rear camera sensors.

Nokia 7.1 is HMD Global’s latest smartphone in its expansive range of Nokia handsets that has grown over the past couple of years. The Nokia 7.1 borrows the design philosophy of the Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus and sports a 19:9 display with a notch, a substantial chin, and vertically aligned dual rear cameras. In the mid-range smartphone segment, the Nokia 7.1 competes with HMD Global’s Nokia 6.1 Plus. The Nokia 6.1 Plus has similar specifications, including the same Snapdragon 636 SoC, 19:9 display, and 3,060mAh battery. However, it does have a different set of cameras and will get Android Pie this month. Let’s check out the differences in pricing and specifications of the Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Nokia 7.1 vs Nokia 6.1 Plus: What’s the Difference?

Alongside the 6.1 Plus, Nokia also unveiled Nokia 5.1 Plus at the launch event. Similar to the 6.1 Plus, the 5.1 plus flaunts an all-screen design and a notch-style display. To recall, Nokia originally introduced the Nokia X6 and Nokia X5 in China. The Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus are the rebranded versions of the Nokia X6 and Nokia X5 respectively for the global market. The new Nokia 5.1 Plus sports a 5.86-inch HD+ display. Powering the phone is a MediaTek Helio P60 processor clocked at 1.8GHz. The smartphone offers dual cameras at the back. Nokia 5.1 Plus runs a stock version of Android Oreo OS and comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage. While the handset made its global debut in India today, HMD Global did not reveal the official price for the Nokia 5.1 Plus yet. The company cited a global pricing of the Nokia 5.1 Plus at EUR 199 (approximately Rs 15,900) and said that the smartphone will be released in September.

Nokia 7.1 vs Nokia 6.1 price
Nokia 7.1 price ranges from EUR 299 (roughly Rs. 25,300) to EUR 349 (about Rs. 29,600), depending on the region it is being sold in. The phone has been launched in Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel colour variants, and will be available in European markets starting later this month. There is currently no word on India pricing and availability.

On the other hand, the Nokia 6.1 Plus has been priced in India at Rs. 15,999 and is available, in Gloss Black, Gloss Midnight Blue, and Gloss White colour options, via Flipkart and Nokia online store in the country. Customers are entitled to no-cost EMI plans and free data on the Jio network. The Nokia 6.1 Plus was first launched globally in Hong Kong at a price of HKD 2,288 (roughly Rs. 21,500) in Blue and White colour options.

Nokia 7.1 vs specifications
Both the Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus are dual-SIM (Nano) smartphones that run a stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo, based on the Android One programme. While the Nokia 7.1 is slated to get Android 9.0 Pie next month, the Nokia 6.1 Plus has been confirmed to receive the update in October itself. Much like other design elements, the Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus sport a similar-looking vertical dual rear camera setup, albeit with different sensors. The Nokia 7.1 gets a 12-megapixel primary sensor, with autofocus and f/1.8 aperture, and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor, with fixed focus and f/2.4 aperture – the rear camera setup features Zeiss optics, EIS, as well as two-phase detection. On the other hand, the Nokia 6.1 Plus features a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor, both with f/2.0 aperture and 1-micron pixel size. On the front, the Nokia 7.1 bears an 8-megapixel fixed focus sensor with f/2.0 aperture and an 84-degree field-of-view. The Nokia 6.1 Plus gets a 16-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 1-micron pixel size.

Once again, both the Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus sport non-removable 3,060mAh battery units under the hood. The Nokia 7.1 comes with support for 18W fast charging, which claims to deliver 50 percent charge in 30 minutes. The Nokia 6.1 Plus has support for 10W fast charging. Both phones sport face-mounted fingerprint sensors and software-based face unlock authentication.

Moto G7 Lineup Now Rumoured to Come With 4 New Models Next Year

2018 year hasn’t been all that good for Motorola, which is why the company has seemingly started working on its next year’s lineup already, with the aim to return back to the competition. Rumours say that the smartphone manufacturer is already working on the G7 series for next year. Rumours also say that Motorola is going to launch only two phones under the G7 lineup — Moto G7 and the G7 Plus — and skip the Play version. The information, however, is not yet confirmed by the company.

Moto G7 lineup is now rumoured to include four distinct models, including the Moto G7 Play, Moto G7 Plus, and Moto G7 Power – alongside the standard Moto G7. The latest rumour surfaces after the alleged specification sheet of the Moto G7 leaked online. The smartphone is expected to come with a 6.4-inch display and include an octa-core SoC. It is also rumoured to carry a dual rear camera setup along with a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary. The Moto G7 is reported to run Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box.

Moto G7 may pack 6.7-inch display, dual rear cameras

Famous tipster Evan Blass, who leaks unannounced developments through his @evleaks Twitter handle, has revealed that Lenovo-owned Motorola is set to launch four models under the Moto G7 lineup next year. It is said that there will be Moto G7 Play, Moto G7 Plus, and Moto G7 Power as well as the standard Moto G7. Notably, if we believe what Blass has tweeted, there will be more models in the Moto G7 lineup over this year’s Moto G6 that was launched earlier this year in the standard Moto G6, Moto G6 Play, and Moto G6 Plus models. The addition of the Power model in the new lineup is likely to bring a massive battery option in the lineup.

Moto G7 lineup is now rumoured to include four distinct models, including the Moto G7 Play, Moto G7 Plus, and Moto G7 Power – alongside the standard Moto G7. It is also rumoured to carry a dual rear camera setup along with a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary. The Moto G7 is reported to run Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box.

When Lenovo acquired Motorola in 2014, it shook the Moto G line up a little. Gone was the single phone, instead multiple models were launched, and of these the ‘G Plus’ model was the most important addition.

With specs that were distinctly not budget, but a price tag that certainly was, this moved the G line up into the bourgeoisie of the smartphone world. In 2018, the Moto G6 Plus was no exception to the rule, balancing a refined design, enough power and a quality experience to superb results.

The Moto G6 lineup is still fresh on the shelves from earlier this year, but that doesn’t mean that Motorola isn’t working on a follow-up. So Waqar Khan took the time to create 3D renders of what the device might look like based on the existing leaks. Some time ago, live pictures of the Motorola One and an unknown device appeared. Now the original source on Weibo was found and the mysterious device turned out to be a Moto G7 prototype. Khan’s renders give us a more detailed look at how the device might be designed. We’ve got relatively thick bezels on the sides and the top with a big chin while the waterdrop-styled notch doesn’t seem to be taking too much space.

Oppo F9 Review: Oppo F9 price in India starts from Rs. 17,991

hen Oppo launched the F9 Pro (Review) in the market last month, it also announced the Oppo F9 at the same event. The Oppo F9 ₹ 17,991 was not given as much attention as its sibling, and it has only just recently become available in the market. In comparison to the Oppo F9 Pro, this less expensive version lacks VOOC fast charging, has 4GB of RAM instead of 6GB, and the 25-megapixel selfie camera has been cut down to 16 megapixels. However, all these reductions to the features and specifications result in a lower price. While the F9 Pro is priced at Rs 23,990, the new Oppo F9 comes in at a Rs. 4,000 less.

While the Oppo F9 is more affordable than the F9 Pro, there are a lot of smartphones at around this price that offer good value for money. Should the Oppo F9 be your first choice? We put it to the test to find out. The Oppo F9/F9 Pro is yet another installment in the hugely popular Oppo mid-range series. It’s the first phone in the family with a dual-camera on the back and backtracks on the screen cutouts by moving to a tiny waterdrop notch. You have probably noticed we are using the F9/F9 Pro inscription for this review and there is a reason for that. Oppo has chosen a rather awkward approach to the naming of its mid-ranger. In India – one of the key markets for the F-series – the F9 is available in two versions. There is the F9 Pro with 6GB of RAM, a 25MP selfie camera and VOOC flash charging, and the regular Oppo F9 with 4GB of RAM, a 16MP selfie shooter, and no VOOC charging. Yet in every other market Oppo is selling only the F9 but with specs matching the Indian pro version(6GB, 25MP, VOOC). So, the phone we got for review is called F9, but specs-wise it’s identical to the F9 Pro as seen in India. We hope this clears it up and we’ll refer to the phone as just F9 from here on.

Oppo F9/F9 Pro review Oppo F9 price in India

When it comes to shape and size, the Oppo F9 and the Oppo F9 Pro are identical. To help distinguish between the two models, Oppo offers different finishes. While the F9 Pro gets flashy colour schemes with different patterns and gradients, the F9 has a diamond cut pattern similar to what we saw on the Realme 1 (Review). There are two colour options, Mist Black and Stellar Purple. The whole pattern isn’t visible at all times, but sections pop up when light hits the back of this phone at different angles. We had the purple version in for review, and it looks quite different from the many black and gold smartphones currently in the market.

In 2018, there’s a thin line between a fashion statement and a smartphone for daily use. With how the designs are evolving, the line is only going to get murkier. Take the Oppo F9 Pro for instance. The company calls it a work of art. And for the most part, it is. Oppo clearly has spent a lot of time refining the design of the phone. You get a whole new notch on top of the display and gradient colour patterns. It clearly looks different and in the price range it launched at, the Oppo F9 Pro does have a lot of competition. It’s new from the inside as well with an updated version of ColorOS based on Android 8.1 Oreo and super-fast VOOC charging. It also happens to be the first phone in Oppo’s F-series to feature a dual rear camera. That’s a lot of new things for the Chinese upstart, but how do they add up in the larger scheme of things? Let’s find out.

The internals are well chosen too – the Helio P60 chip has already proven as a solid mid-range performer, you get a dual-camera on the back with bright lens and a super high-res selfie snapper. Add the large battery with VOOC support and it looks like a great package. Sadly we are still seeing a dated microUSB port.

The Oppo F9 is made out of plastic, and its highlight feature is its display. It has a smaller notch compared to what we have seen on most other smartphones in the market. Oppo calls this a ‘waterdrop’ design, and it only houses the 16-megapixel selfie camera. The earpiece is cleverly positioned above it, helping in making the notch smaller. Vivo’s V11 Pro (Review) has a similar notch, and the upcoming OnePlus 6T is also rumoured to sport it. The Oppo F9  Pro certainly looks stunning. The design including the gradient glass back and the water drop notch does make the phone stand out. The new UI also helps make the phone look more premium. But it’s performance leaves a lot to be desired, especially considering the price it’s offered at and the competition. The Snapdragon 845-powered Poco F1 is available at a lower price point while the Nokia 7 Plus is an all-rounder in terms of performance and imaging. The primary (if not the only one) reason to get the Oppo F9 Pro is for its selfie camera that relies on extensive AI algorithms to deliver results that are both eye-pleasing and well-detailed. The VOOC charging tech is also nullified somewhat by a poor battery life. Get this only if you are a selfie enthusiast and consider your smartphone to be a fashion statement.
